Use Leafsight in ChatGPT or Claude
Leafsight can be connected to ChatGPT or Claude as an app (an MCP server). Without signing in, the assistant can search and read Leafsight's plant problem guides in 8 languages. After you sign in with your Leafsight account, it can also read your saved plants, past assessments and upcoming check-ins. It is read-only, and it does not assess photos.
Who this is for: you already ask ChatGPT or Claude about your plants and want answers grounded in Leafsight's guides, or you use the Leafsight app and want to ask about your own plants from a chat.
What the assistant can do with it
| Tool | What it does | Sign-in |
|---|---|---|
| search_guides | Finds the plant problem guides that match what you describe, such as "white fluffy bugs on my succulent" | Not needed |
| get_guide | Reads one guide in full: what it looks like, the common causes, what to do first, when to look closer | Not needed |
| list_my_plants | Lists your saved plants, each with its latest assessment and next check-in | Needed |
| get_plant | One saved plant: its details, notes, recent assessments and next check-in | Needed |
| get_result | One past assessment: the likely problem, how serious it looks, the symptoms, the causes and the care steps | Needed |
| get_upcoming_checkins | Your scheduled check-ins, soonest first, marked overdue, due today or upcoming | Needed |
What it does not do
- It does not assess photos. A new assessment still happens in the iPhone or iPad app, so nothing you upload in a chat goes to Leafsight.
- It does not change anything. Every tool only reads; it can't add, edit or delete a plant or a result.
- It does not unlock care steps. A result's treatment and prevention steps appear in the chat only when they are unlocked in your app (with Pro, the one-time unlock, or the first result that includes them). A locked result says to open it in the app.
Connect it to Claude
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Free (which allows one); on Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it for the organisation first. Steps as Claude showed them on 5 November 2026:
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it Leafsight, enter the URL https://askleafsight.com/mcp and click Continue.
- Under Authentication, choose Sign in when needed, and for the client choose Register automatically. Click Add.
The guide tools work as soon as it is added. The first time you ask about your own plants, Claude shows a Connect card: click it, enter your Leafsight account email, and type the code we email you. Claude then carries on with the same question.
Connect it to ChatGPT
Leafsight is not yet in the ChatGPT app directory. Some ChatGPT plans let you add a custom MCP server by URL; where yours does, use https://askleafsight.com/api/mcp. The menu for this has moved more than once and differs between plans, so follow OpenAI's help centre for your plan rather than steps copied here.
Signing in
The guide tools need no account. For your own plants, the assistant opens a Leafsight page on askleafsight.com where you enter the email of your Leafsight account and then a code we email you. It signs in existing accounts only and never makes a new one. If you made your account with Google or Apple, use that account's email (an Apple "Hide My Email" address may not receive the code yet). If you started as a guest in the app and never added an email, add one in the app first.
Access lasts 90 days, then you sign in again. To stop sooner, remove Leafsight in ChatGPT or Claude. To end the connection on our side as well, email hello@askleafsight.com or delete your Leafsight account.
Questions
Does it cost anything?
Connecting it and reading the guides are free. The account tools show what your app already shows: care steps appear only for results that are unlocked in your app. Leafsight is free to download with free assessments every day, and with a free account the first result's care steps are free. After that, Leafsight Pro is $5.99 a week with a 3-day free trial, $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $49.99 once, or one result's steps for $2.99, one time. The price is on the screen before any trial starts.
Can the assistant see my photos?
No. The tools return text about your plants and results: names, species and locations, notes, the likely problem, severity, symptoms and causes, care steps when unlocked, and check-in and care dates. Your scan photos stay in your Leafsight account and are not sent to the chat. What the assistant does with the text is covered by ChatGPT's or Claude's own privacy terms.
Which languages does it answer in?
The guides come in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean, and the assistant can ask for a guide in the language you write in. The sign-in page is in English only for now.
Is an answer in the chat a certain answer?
No. The guides are general guidance, and the assistant writes its own answer from them and from your saved results, so it can be wrong. For a valuable plant, or anything you might eat, ask a garden centre or a plant clinic.
Leafsight is free to download, and the plant problem guides are free to read on this site too.
