About Plant Doctor
Plant Doctor: Disease & Pests is an iPhone and iPad app made by Andria Labs, an independent app developer in Sheridan, Wyoming, USA. It launched on the App Store on 30 September 2026. It is not connected to other apps, websites or university services that also use the name Plant Doctor.
How does Plant Doctor make an assessment?
- You take or choose one photo of the leaves, stem or fruit that worry you.
- The photo is sent to a general-purpose AI vision model: Claude by Anthropic from app version 1.0.12, and OpenAI's model in earlier versions. The app names the provider before you confirm each scan.
- The model is asked for the likely problem, how serious it looks, the visible symptoms and how confident it is, under fixed rules for safe care advice: non-chemical steps first, product types rather than brands, no doses, and a reminder to follow the label.
- Plant Doctor's server checks the answer against safety rules before you see it. No person reviews it.
What can't a Plant Doctor assessment do?
A Plant Doctor assessment is based on a single photo. It cannot see roots, soil or anything outside the frame, and it can be wrong, sometimes confidently. Plant Doctor has not published an accuracy rate. It is not expert horticultural, agricultural or medical advice, and it never says whether a plant is safe to eat or touch. For plants that matter commercially, or anything you might eat, check with a qualified expert or your local extension service.
